Celtic host their Old Firm rivals Rangers in the final derby match of the season this afternoon.
With five games to go, Celtic has no chances of silverware, having been knocked out of the Scottish Women’s Cup. But they have third place, the position they currently occupy, to secure.
This season, Celtic has often shown that they have made improvements this season and are regularly beating the teams below. The issue they have, and one they need to solve to progress, is taking points off the top two teams. And it was that issue that came to the foreground in their last league game when they lost 5-0 to league leaders Glasgow City. This was after Celtic had won their previous two league games 5-0.
Rangers are also wanting to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat – having lost 5-0 to Stirling University. They’ve had a stop-start season, and they will need to pick up wins if they have a chance of finishing fourth – as they are currently four points behind Spartans.
They are in a battle for fourth with Spartans and Stirling, and that defeat was one that provided them with a setback – but who better to bounce back against than your rivals?
Celtic has won both games against Rangers this season – the first 5-1 whilst the second game was a closer encounter with them winning 2-1.
Celtic will remain third regardless of the result whilst Rangers could jump up to fifth with a win.
