Hibernian beat their Edinburgh rivals Spartans 6-1, thanks in part due to braces from Lizzie Arnot and Abigail Harrison as they recovered from last week’s heavy defeat.
Losing to Glasgow City 4-0 put a massive dent in their title bid, and they were facing a Spartans in a good run of form, and they had themselves beaten City in the league.
But Hibs took the lead in the ninth minute when Lizzie Arnot’s through-ball set up Sarah Ewens and the ex-Spartans forward calmly slotted the ball under the home side’s keeper Eartha Cumings.
Lisa Robertson’s cross found Arnot at the far post whose header made it 2-0 to the away team.
Early in the second half, Arnot came centimetres from her second as her shot smashed off the crossbar and onto the line, but without crossing it. Minutes later, it was 3-0 to Hibs through good work fro Lucy Graham.
Spartans then pulled a goal back through Michelle Russell’s long-range effort.
But any chance of a Spartans comeback was ended in the 65th minute when Kirsty Smith’s cross assisted Arnot for her second of the game.
Abigail Harrison made it 5-1 when she reacted quickest to Cumings’ parried save and found the bottom corner with her shot.
And late on, Harrison scored her second after being picked out by Rachel McLauchlan’s cut-back.
