McDiarmid Park, 21 August 2016, Kick-Off: 4pm
Jeanfield Swifts host a Glasgow Girls team that is looking to bounce back from a defeat to Hearts to saw them relinquish top spot.
And Jeanfield themselves, are looking to continue closing on in the top three after their impressive 6-1 win over Inverness last week. Since the break, they’ve won both of their league games (as well as reaching the Scottish Women’s Cup Quarter-Finals) but the damage to their position was down just before the break. Then, they lost three games in a row, all to the four teams directly above them.
The one team missing from that run though was their opponents today.
Before last week, Glasgow Girls had been the SWPL’s in-form team, winning eight league games in a row as they moved up the table and eventually into the top spot. But, Hearts beat them 2-0 last Sunday, and now Glasgow Girls sit two points behind first place.
Glasgow Girls, though, are yet to lose two league games in a row (having lost twice before) and they will want that run to continue.
There is an added intrigue to the match, as these two sides will meet in the Scottish Women’s Cup Quarter-Final on the 4th September – a tie that will also be played at McDiarmid Park.
Earlier in the season, Glasgow Girls narrowly beat Jeanfield 3-2 and another classic game for the neutral is very likely between these two sides.
