Hibernian v Glasgow City – Match Preview – SWPL 1

14 August 2016, Albyn Park, Kick-Off: 2pm

An unmissable clash as the top two sides of the SWPL 1 meets at Albyn Park this afternoon.

In a season where everyone plays each other three times, the first match is the least important. Back in May, Glasgow City overpowered Hibernian, using the pace of their attack – in particular, Fiona Brown – to devastating effect.

But, perhaps for the first time in years, Hibernian go into today’s match with the real belief that they can beat Glasgow City – something that they’ve lacked in previous matches. And that is because of the events at the SWPL Cup Final in June where Lizzie Arnot’s last-gasp goal saw them win the competition in normal time.

With just two points between the sides, with City in first, whoever wins will end the day in first place. Whilst the result will not be decisive in the title race, it will provide the victor with added confidence going into the final stages of the season.

These are the two best sides in Scotland, both with dangerous forward lines and they will put on an intriguing show.

If Hibernian win, it will be the first time that Glasgow City has lost twice in a season for the first time in the 2006-07 season, the last time that City failed to win the league – and the last time Hibernian were champions.

So, will City continue their dominance in this fixture or will Hibs take a giant step in preventing City winning their tenth title in a row?

Only one way to find out.
