The draw for the 2016 Scottish Women’s Cup Quarter-Final has been made, and it is a highly exciting draw. The ties are as follows:
Hibernian v Celtic
Stirling University v Glasgow City
Jeanfield Swifts v Glasgow Girls
Hearts v Hutchison Vale
The games will be played on the 4th September.
All eight teams left are SWPL clubs, and there will be two guaranteed SWPL 1 and SWPL 2 sides in the Semi-Finals.
Hibernian and Glasgow City, the finalists in the 2015 final, have been kept apart but both face tricky ties. City, the holders, travel to Stirling University who have proven they can beat the best this season, and will be testing opposition.
But the mouth-watering tie is Hibernian v Celtic. Two Sundays ago, Hibernian needed a last-gasp goal to beat Celtic, and in the three matches between the sides this year, they have all ended in one-goal Hibs wins. This will be truly tense.
Jeanfield v Glasgow Girls will be an exciting match. Earlier this season, Glasgow Girls won 3-2 and are the current SWPL 2 leaders. But Jeanfield Swifts have an exciting attacking unit, and it will be a brilliant match for the neutrals.
And then you have an Edinburgh derby between Hearts and Hutchison Vale. Hearts are one point behind the leaders, and Hutchie’s recent form could see them break into the top three this Sunday.
Whilst there have been complaints about one-sided results earlier in the tournament, whichever tie you turn up to watch, you’ll be treated to a classic.
Semi-Finals: 16 October
Final: 6 November.
