Stirling University, 19 June 2016, Kick-Off: 2pm
Stirling University host the SWPL Cup winners Hibernian as they look to move off the bottom of the SWPL 1 table.
Stirling’s season has been a series of strong performances, being praised by neutrals without much to show for it, apart from their spectacular win over Celtic. But having lost to Forfar Farmington, they soon found themselves bottom of the table – and with Forfar’s improvement, it looked like they could be stranded.
But in the last SWPL 1 match, they picked up a highly impressive 1-0 win over Rangers – and now sit level with seventh-placed Forfar, behind only on goal difference.
Whilst Hibernian will be undoubtedly ecstatic after winning the SWPL Cup with a highly impressive win over Glasgow City, they have to beat Stirling to keep their title chase back on track. This is the first of two back-to-back games between the two clubs, with Hibs hosting Stirling on Wednesday night.
They sit eight points behind Glasgow City, with a game in hand – so if they beat Stirling twice they will be a minimum of five points behind the leaders, and even two points behind them.
A win for Stirling could see them move up to sixth, whilst Hibernian could cut City’s lead at the top down to five points.
