New Tinto Park, 19 June 2016, Kick-Off: 2pm
Today sees the second Old Firm derby of the season as Rangers host Celtic at New Tinto Park.
The first Old Firm had been a highly historic moment, as Celtic Ladies played their first ever match at Celtic Park – and they rose to the occasion, beating Rangers 5-1.
Since beating Forfar on the 1st May, Rangers’ form has worsened. In that run, they’ve lost an SWPL Cup Semi-Final and lost to Glasgow City, Hibernian and Stirling University in the SWPL 1.
This means that Rangers has dropped from second down to fourth, and are in danger of being dragged towards the relegation place.
Celtic’s three-game winning run came to an end as they lost 3-2 to Glasgow City, as once again, they lost by one goal to the top two sides in the SWPL 1.
They have improved their side with the signings of Abbi Grant and Christie Murray and are looking to break into the top two – and if they are to do that, they will have to continue beating sides like Rangers.
Rangers will go level on points with Celtic if they win, but they are unlikely to overtake them, due to the differences in goal difference. Celtic could close the gap on second place with a win, and are unlikely to drop down a place even if they lose.
