New Douglas Park, 19 June 2016, Kick-Off: 5pm
The SWPL 2 leaders Hamilton Academical take on seventh-placed Queen’s Park at New Douglas Park.
Hamilton has won their past three games in the league, with their strong goal difference of +29 seeing them top of the table. The SWPL 2 title race is really hotting up, with just one point separating the top three, so it is crucial Hamilton pick up three points if they are to remain top.
And, they can gain further confidence from their superb Scottish Cup Second Round win over Spartans. Having drawn 0-0 after extra-time, Hamilton won the penalty shootout.
Queen’s Park’s past league game is one they want to forget, having been unable to field a side against Glasgow Girls. And, they were victims of perhaps what the biggest Scottish Cup shock – losing 5-1 to SWFL Division Two South’s Renfrew.
Whilst they will need to pick up wins to climb out of the relegation places, they will be focusing on improving their performances, having suffered a series of heavy defeats.
Earlier in the season, Hamilton Academical beat Queen’s Park 10-1.
A Hamilton win will see them maintain their place at the top, with a defeat seeing them possibly drop down to third. Queen’s Park could cut the gap to sixth down to five points if they win.
