Glasgow City v East Kilbride – Scottish Women’s Cup Second Round – Match Preview

Excelsior Stadium, 12 June 2016, Kick-Off: 1pm.

The Scottish Women’s Cup holders and SWPL 1 leaders Glasgow City host SWFL Division Two Central side, East Kilbride.

Glasgow City has had the best possible start to their season. Nine games into the SWPL 1, nine wins, an eight-point lead at the top, reached the SWPL Cup Final and they’ve beaten their rivals Hibernian in the league. And ahead of the mid-week SWPL Cup Final, they begin their Scottish Cup defense. They will most likely rotate, resting the players away on international duty, but with quality and players like Brogan Hay, Sam Kerr, and Carla Boyce to name a few, it will still be a strong side.

East Kilbride has generally struggled so far in the Division Two Central, picking up just one win in their eight league games so far – at that came against the bottom placed club Cumbernauld Colts Development. They were knocked out of the SWFL Division Two Cup First Round, losing to Blackburn United. In East Kilbride’s first season of existence, they will be looking forward to a cup tie against the best side in the country.

To reach the Second Round, East Kilbride beat Edinburgh South 5-2 in the First Round.
