SWPL 2 leaders Hamilton Academical beat bottom-placed Inverness City 11-0 to remain top of the table.
After Glasgow Girls win earlier on in the day, they knew they had to win, but after the first minute, the result was never in doubt. They took the lead when MT McGuiness’ cutback provided Mhairi Lyle with a tap-in.
Hamilton nearly doubled their lead when Megan Quinn played McGuiness through down the left, but the striker’s shot found the side-netting
They did get their second came in the 17th minute when a cutback found Amy McCafferty whose shot slipped under the Inverness’ keeper.
Minutes later, they could have extended their lead further when Quinn’s cross was cleared to Lori Gardner, but her chip failed to find the target.
Then it was 3-0. McGuiness played Gardner through, and she blasted the ball into the net. Two minutes later, it was 4-0 when Lyle’s pass left the keeper stranded and Gardner scored into the empty net.
And just before half-time, it was 5-0 when captain Gillian Inglis found the corner from the edge of the box.
Before the half-time whistle was blown, they nearly scored a sixth, but Amy Anderson’s shot hit the post.
In the first minute of the second half, it was 6-0 when Inglis won and converted a penalty.
McGuiness found herself on the scoresheet as she rounded the keeper, making it 7-0.
It was then 8-0 when Anderson’s driven corner was rebounded to Lyle who tapped the ball over the line.
McGuiness completed her hat-trick, her second coming when she took advantage of Inverness’ keeper Kim Jappy’s mistake and her third when once again she took the ball round the keeper before scoring.
And then it was 11-0, as Lyle’s powerful shot was parried by Jappy into Lauren Kerr’s path who was left with a simple finish.
Hamilton remains top of the table, whilst Inverness remain bottom of the table.
