Celtic produced a superb performance to thrash Spartans 6-0 to get their title challenge back on track. After losing their last two games, Celtic knew another defeat would see them dragged closer towards the relegation place. But, they were playing Spartans who had struggled on their travels this season and Celtic were in a ruthless mood.
It took just two minutes for Celtic to opening the scoring through Suzanne Mulvey’s lob past the keeper from six yards out.
Spartans’ keeper Eartha Cumings produced a magnificent save to stop Kerry Montgomery from doubling Celtic’s lead, but she could do nothing in the 32nd minute. Kirsty Howat’s corner found Montgomery whose unstoppable header found the back of the net.
Just before half-time, Celtic made it 3-0 through Mulvey’s brave finish.
If Spartans were to mount a comeback, they nearly an early goal in the second half. Unfortunately for them, Celtic made it 4-0 through Christie Murray’s long-range effort.
On the hour mark, it was 5-0 as unselfish play from Joanne Paton set up Murray for a close range finish.
And just before full time, Celtic scored their sixth as Mulvey completed her hat-trick after a fine solo run saw her break into the Spartans’ box and she placed the ball past Cumings.
