Unlike the visitors, Hibernian go into the match unbeaten in all competitions this year – although, they have dropped points in a goalless draw with Aberdeen. Last week’s win over Forfar Farmington saw them move up to second place, but the 3-1 win was far less emphatic compared to their League Cup Quarter-Final triumph over the same opposition. This is the first of two games in a row which will test their title credentials as they play Glasgow City on the 1st May.

Celtic strengthened their already impressive squad with the signing of the Scotland international Christie Murray at the end of March. But last Sunday, they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Stirling University. After missing some great chances, Celtic took a late lead through Suzanne Mulvey. But in the final minutes, Stirling scored twice – including a stunning strike from Jade Gallon – which saw Celtic drop from first place and down to third. This had been after picking up a historic 5-1 win over Rangers in their first ever match played at Celtic Park.

This means that Celtic are yet to win away from home, with their only other away league match a 1-0 defeat to Glasgow City. The signing of Murray was a hint that we could remove the tag ‘dark-horses’ when talking about the title race, but they are faced with needing to get at least a point to remain in the battle. Even at this early stage, it is possible to see both Glasgow City and Hibernian opening up an unassailable gap. However, with the competitiveness of the SWPL 1, anything can happen.

This is not the first time these sides have met this season, having met at K-Park during the SWP League Cup First Round. On that day, Hibernian won 1-0, and the majority of the recent games between the sides have been narrow Hibs wins. This should be an absolutely superb game for the neutral.

Hibernian can’t go any higher than second with a win, but if there is a Celtic victory, the Glasgow side will move into second.
